Start with the purchase.
Then check the cashback.
Cashback can reduce the cost of something you already need. It is less useful if the reward persuades you to spend more.
Compare the price you actually pay.
Check the item, delivery charge, membership costs and alternatives. Until cashback is confirmed, treat it as a possible saving rather than money in your pocket.
A simple illustration
Shop A charges £100 with £5 possible cashback. Shop B charges £93 with no cashback. Even if Shop A pays the full reward, Shop B is £2 cheaper. These figures are an example, not a live promotion.
Before you click through
- Read the retailer-specific terms on the cashback service.
- Check whether your purchase, customer status and chosen payment method qualify.
- Check restrictions on voucher codes and other discounts.
- Follow the service’s tracking instructions and retain order details.
- Check expected approval and payout times before relying on the reward.
A tracked purchase is not a paid reward.
Look at the status and explanation shown by your service. An initial tracking entry may still need retailer approval. Returns, cancellations or excluded purchases can affect the result.
If cashback does not appear, use the service’s missing-cashback process and check the deadline for raising a claim. Keep your order reference and purchase date.
New-member bonuses
Check who counts as a new member, the minimum qualifying spend, any excluded retailers and the time allowed. A headline signup bonus may require a purchase and confirmation before payment.
Membership and payout
Compare available membership options, any retained fees, payout thresholds and withdrawal methods. Read the current terms rather than assuming all rewards are withdrawable immediately.

Use this quick decision check
- Would I buy it without the cashback?
- Is the final price competitive even if cashback fails?
- Do I understand what qualifies and when I can claim?
If any answer is no, pause and compare alternatives.
